New Year

There is a lot of fear and doubt in the market as we head into 2019 but I remain positive. I remember stoic teachings that we should not attempt to control what is beyond our purview and keep our intentions to what we can control. That is why I love resolutions. Talking with my wife last night about our goals for 2019, I realized I hadn’t set mine yet. After a nice coffee and relaxing hike, I’ve set my intentions for the year.

Goal 1: Launch my second venture successfully

After launching TrackR while in school and scaling the business for over a decade, I learned a lot. After leaving in 2017, I thought about joining a company or doing some consulting but it felt like such a waste of all my learnings of being a startup CEO. I also looked at doing just a software only business but I love making something with a physical component and have a unique experience in successfully launching multiple connected products. I’m looking forward to applying these learnings at Shine and look forward to the challenges & hopping on the startup roller coaster ride again.

Goal 2: Husband Upgrade

This last year, I had a nice break where I got to connect with my son & saw the birth of my daughter. It’s been an awesome year for family and we’ve enjoyed a bunch of family trips together. I hope to continue to foster these relationships but also upgrade the relationship with my wife by being consistently off the phone in the morning and dinner, and getting a monthly date night.

Goal 3: Surf & Health

I saw my buddy, Sonny Vu, posting about his tremendous accomplishment of doing push ups every morning and I got pretty inspired. I got some weights sitting in the corner of my office, unused. I’d like to use them everyday.

Surf wise, this last year was pretty epic for me. I got the best wave of my life at Rincon last year, got to Namotu island for a surf & kitesurf bonanza, and caught the biggest wave of my life at Sunset Beach. I really would like to do 1 surf trip this year and keep that an annual thing. Just one and doesn’t need to be long. Talking to a buddy about mainland Mexico and as a plus we could both bring the families.

Happy New Year!
